Con un Pie Aquí y Otro Allá (One foot here and the other over there)

I have a feeling there may be a variation of that expression for most immigrant groups.  For first generation Dominicans in NY it seems to ring true.  For many it seems that you work, just to make enough money to go to D.R. and spend it, and then come back and do it all over again.  Any self respecting Dominican in NY also knows it is incredibly important to go to D.R. over the holidays, with presents for your family and enough cash to live it up (drink, dance and eat till you drop) over the holidays in your beloved isla.

How did you get involved with Being Latino?

One random Facebook day someone named Lance Rios (you may have heard of him) friended me on Facebook. He started a “small” fan page called Being Latino and I as I continued to stalk the page and what he was doing, I decided to start blogging. And now here we are today…I’m a staff writer!

Cartoons for abuse?

On Wednesday, October 20, 2010 there was a campaign, not limited to Facebook, to wear purple to honor LGBQT youth who had taken their lives due to bullying. Like many I wore purple and changed my Facebook profile photo to a purple ribbon in solidarity.

There is another Facebook only (I believe) campaign that originated on an anonymous page, which asks FB members to post the following status (with some variations) and then change their default pictures until today, December 6th.

“Change your FB profile picture to a cartoon from your childhood. The goal is to not see any human face on FB til Dec. 6th. JOIN THE FIGHT AGAINST CHILD ABUSE copy and paste to your status to invite friends to do the same.”
