In not-so-shocking news: Michele Bachmann will not help children of immigrants

Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann waded into a sensitive area of immigration policy Saturday during a somewhat charged exchange at a campaign stop in southeast Iowa.

Bachmann entered an extended exchange with a college student (and Democrat) over how to handle the immigrants who are brought to the U.S. illegally as children.

After finishing a speech that focused in part on repealing the federal health care law and overhauling the tax code, Bachmann opened the floor to questions from the 100 or so people gathered at Smokey Row restaurant.

Anonymous threat to Zeta Mexican drug cartel: “… we’ll expose your identities…” (video)

via Houston Chronicle — An international group of online hackers is warning a Mexican drug cartel to release one of its members, kidnapped from a street protest, or it will publish the identities and addresses of the syndicate’s associates, from corrupt police to taxi drivers, as well as reveal the syndicates’ businesses.

The vow is a bizarre cyber twist to Mexico’s ongoing drug war, as a group that has no guns is squaring off against the Zetas, a cartel blamed for thousands of deaths as well as introducing beheadings and other frightening brutality.

Moreno, Leguizamo talk Latin life in ‘Hollywouldn’t’

Rita Moreno — the only Latino performer to win an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony — is reprising some of her most memorable characters in a solo show at the Berkeley Repertory Theater. Up the coast in Los Angeles, John Leguizamo, who co-starred opposite Al Pacino in Carlito’s Way and voiced Sid the sloth in the animated Ice Age films, is performing another of his acclaimed solo shows. And while their Hollywood success came 40 years apart, the two say they encountered many of the same hurdles.

When Apple released its new iOS 5 operating system to go with its iPhone 4S, it touted a new app called “Find My Friends” as a great way to track and meet up with friends. If they agree, you can see their locations on a map on your screen.

But the app’s enterprising customers are apparently already finding other uses. If the online posts appearing on a chat forum at MacRumors.com are for real, “Find My Friends” may have already claimed its first marriage.

Mexican drug cartels recruiting Texas children

SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) – Texas law enforcement officials say several Mexican drug cartels are luring youngsters as young as 11 to work in their smuggling operations.

Steven McCraw, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, told Reuters the drug gangs have a chilling name for the young Texans lured into their operations.

Occupying and growing 28 days later

It has been almost a month since the occupation of lower Manhattan started. The protest began on September 17, when a few hundred people gathered around Bowling Green waving their pieces of cardboard with slogans that, by now we’re all familiar with, like “We are the 99%” and “People over profit”.  Since then, protesters have not left Liberty Plaza and its surroundings. They settled in. People are practically living in the park, which by now has been mapped and divided by sections (medical, media, kitchen, assembly, they even have a library).
